Your home for free and royalty free content
I've been making creative works of one kind or another for years, and one thing that always helps me is having stockpiles of free, non-restrictive resources that I can use. To help myself keep track of these, and to help others who are looking for quality resources for their own projects, I've created LIBREsources.
LIBREsources, a portmanteau of the words "libre" and "resources," is exactly what it sounds like: a place to find resources without restrictive licenses that you can use in your own work. The navigation is separated out into four categories based on the type of content. Within those categories, if multiple license categories are available, there are sub-categories for different available license types:
- Libre: Completely free of charge, and free of usage restrictions. Creative Commons Zero, Public Domain, Open Source, etc.
- Attribution: These sources require some level of creator attribution, like the bulk of the Creative Commons licenses.
- Semi-Restrictive: Some restrictions apply, but depending on your situation, they may be a great resource.
- Mixed: These sources will have varying licenses, but may contain great resources. It will just take some extra work to verify you can legally use them.
Other sites exist for this kind of thing, but I find the massive repositories somewhat overwhelming. Two of my favorite collections of resources like this are Freebies Bug and WebAppers.
